Engineering Excellence Award
Mr Law Man Hoi Wicky

SMPTE member, Mr Law Man Hoi Wicky, of Phoenix Satellite Television Co. Ltd, Hong Kong, has won the ABU Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award. The award recognises contributions of an outstanding nature in broadcast engineering made by an individual in a broadcasting organisation.

The award citation reads:
“Mr Law led the project team for the design and implementation of the file-based workflow and HD ready broadcasting facilities at Phoenix’s new headquarter in Hong Kong. He was responsible for the system design from user workflow analysis, system proposals, to equipment selection and also supervised implementation. “Mr Law exercised excellent project management and his technical expertise contributed to the success of the project. The system performance was more than satisfactory.
“The new facilities enhance the productivity with the ‘One production, multiple consumption’ and ‘One content, multiple versions’ concepts. The splendid News Studio promotes the image of Phoenix’s dedication to the broadcast industry and to its audience worldwide. “With the total file-based workflow, the usage of video tape has been greatly reduced. This has resulted in huge cost savings on video tape purchases and on maintenance of video tape recorders.”
